Customs and traditions of people are linked with the religion spirit. In every celebration of our religion, many customs and traditions revive, that coming from many ages ago. For example Christian anniversaries, like Christmas and Easter are accompanied with the creation of special traditional foods and sweets, songs, carols e.t.c.

We have to mention that important facts of human life like birth, marriage e.t.c. are joined with the traditions of the island. Nowadays there are a lto of cultural clubs that aim to preserve morals, customs and traditions of Lesvos.

Wedding: The day of the wedding, the bride is primed and the organs play. Before the bride goes to the church, the relatives cut a bun above her head, by keeping all the local customs. The organs accompany the couple to the church where local songs are heard and traditional dances are danced. The guests eat almond sweets and baklava.

Local festivals: The festival of Taxiarchis takes place the Fragrant Sunday at the monastery that is very close to Mandamados. The monastery is very old, surrounded with gardens and walls, shells and storage areas. The temple is very famous in Lesvos, for the icon of Taxiarchis Michael, that is an item of sacred adoration. At the festival are coming faith people from all the island, Minor Asia coast and mainly from Aivalik.

The festival is combined with the ceremonial slaughter of Bull, while in the storage areas a traditional food named "kiskek" is prepared for all the people.  Important symbol of the festival is the horse, apart from the bull. Horse ridings are organized and small seller are gathered and shell their things.

In Mandamados that is a big agricultural and range area, special known for the local dairy products and ceramic items, the festival is continued with music bands, songs and a lot of dance.

Agios Charalambos: The festival takes place at the chapel of Agios Charalambos at the place named "Tavros", and also at the square and coffeehouse of Agia Paraskevi with music and a lot of fun. Celebration of Agios Charalambos takes place in 10 February while the festival has transferred in spring and specifically between the last 10 days of May, before the day of "Ascension". The local Agricultural Club organize the festival since 1915.

Lesbian summer: Every year Municipality of Mytilene and the rest municipalities of Lesbos island organize many activities during summer.  Concerts, exhibitions, ouzo festival, dancing performances and other performances. All these give the ability to visitors and local people to get acquaint with cultural and artistic spirit, traditions and customs of every city of every part of Lesvos. A special experience that every day becomes better and better.
